What we take on
A broad shop, on purpose.
Most studios narrow to one service and send you elsewhere for the rest. We would rather be the one number you call, so the list is wide and the work is priced job by job. If what you need is not on it, ask anyway.

Who you are dealing with
A small studio, and you will know whose work it is.
Volent is deliberately small. You deal with the person doing the work, not an account manager relaying messages to a team you never meet. That is also why we will not pretend a ten minute fix is a project.
You should not have to work out whether yours is a website problem, a hosting problem or a security problem. Describe what you want, and sorting that out becomes my job.
You will have a price before anything starts. When the honest answer is that you do not need me, you will get that instead.
How we work
We will not say no to your idea. We will say no to work you do not need.
Engineers say no for a living. No, that is the wrong way, no, my approach is better. It is often true and it is almost always the wrong answer, because it is your project and your name on it. So we start from yes and find a way to make your version work. What we will not do is quietly inflate the job: if what you need is one line you can paste in yourself, we will say that instead of selling you a rebuild.
Your idea, your way
If you want something built a particular way, that is the brief. We will tell you the trade-off once, plainly, then build what you asked for.
Priced before it starts
You get the scope and the number before any work begins. Changes get priced too, in the open, rather than absorbed and resented.
Reasons, not opinions
When we recommend something, you get why: what it changes, what it costs, and what happens if you leave it. Never because it is what we would do.
Plain language
If an explanation needs a glossary, it is a bad explanation. You should be able to repeat back what is wrong to someone else.

Before anything starts. If it turns out you do not need the work, we will tell you that instead, and you owe us nothing.

We build it, and it keeps working
Certificates expire, plugins age, suppliers change. Renewals and monitoring are set up so the same fault does not quietly come back in a year.
